Become A Sponsor
You can become a sponsor to help Calvin in his lifelong care.
Calvin was born with a rare genetic syndrome which is a version of the known SOX2 anophthalmia syndrome. Calvin will need a lifetime of medical care costing hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.
His particular genetic diagnosis and medical condition has only been seen in 40 people in the entire world and because this genetic syndrome is fairly new (discovered in 2002) there is still much to discover about future complications, detection and prevention methods.
(Note: The government genetics website (link above) shows this syndrome affects 1 out of 250,000, however, according to our Children’s Hospital Genetics researchers he is only of 40 cases reported worldwide)
Our family needs your help. We can’t do this alone…
So in our quest to find the help and funding our family needs, we came up with an idea.
The idea was to make a “Possibilities Wall” that you, the sponsor, can add a space on the wall for a caring thought, positive quote, your name, company logo, or an advertisement for your business.
We will put this on our family vehicle so all can see who helped us out!

Why become a sponsor on our “Possibilities Wall”?
We came up with a “Possibilities Wall” to reflect a positive drive to help our son Calvin with his care and potential cures. We also wanted a way to give back to you, the sponsor, and potentially grant a wish for you as well. Imagine it like a wishing well… you toss something of value into the well to wish for something good! This is also a great low cost advertising tool for your business too!

Our Family Story.
I always love a good story… especially the ones where there is a happy ending as you journey with the characters throughout the entire adventure! Well, I hope this story does have a happy ending for our family in our own story. We thank all who help us along the way!
Our story began 6 years ago as I fell in love with my best friend. It sounds cliche I know, but it was true. Our likes and interests were similar and it was always enjoyable to hang out. Of course, I never thought she would be “the one” but what a great surprise that turned into as we began dating.
A year later we were married and started a family having a baby girl named Samantha. She was beautiful and everyday I enjoyed the time I spent with her! She was born with severe club feet and needed special casts and braces to help her feet grow correctly. A couple years went by as we had many visits to doctors and specialists to help with her legs and feet. We did everything we could to make her better but the bills kept adding up quickly even with my family health insurance coverage.
We soon went bankrupt and couldn’t afford our bills or the home we lived in. I often think about what I could have done different to stop this from happening and loosing our home. To make things worse, within a month after the bankruptcy we were audited by the IRS – due to a software glitch in the tax software we had used by H&R Block. If it was a couple hundred that would have been okay, but instead It was a couple thousand dollars.
I was almost in tears as they were saying they could take everything… and sadly we had nothing left but a small savings account to help us in case of emergency.
I had paid for audit defense that year- yet we still lost our money. My H&R representative kept telling me the IRS was slow to appeal – yet the money was taken out the next year before we could get a date to appeal the decision. – We still do not have a date set for an appeal.
We moved to a small apartment that we could afford and had our second child Madeline. Another angel came into our life – early. She was premature and stayed in the hospital for a few weeks and then for about a year we dealt with having late nights of screaming due to her digestion problems that the doctors couldn’t figure out.
Our poor girl was in pain many nights of the week and there was little we could do to ease the pain. Often we were in the emergency room at the hospital for we feared the worst as her screams got more intense. Soon she got better and is now a healthy happy 2 year old.
I was always wanting to even the odds and wanted a son… and so it happened – we had a baby boy this year in 2012. I figured there was no way we could have any troubles. We even double and triple checked in the ultrasounds to make sure nothing was wrong with our new baby boy. The doctors said we had a healthy baby boy and had nothing to worry about.
On June 6, 2012 Calvin was born and in a few hours he changed everything we knew to be true.
Within a few hours of birth we were told that our son was born without eyes and that there were other health concerns about him. I felt numb and my ears began to ring as I stood in the birthing room in complete shock. I watched as my wife cried uncontrollably and I was completely choked up as I held her in my arms.
Then for sometime the room was uncomfortably quiet…
An ambulance came to rush Calvin to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee and from there we found out Calvin not only had no eyes, but was 100% deaf, is unable to feed by mouth and had to get a feeding tube surgically implanted into his small tummy, his brain has a small corpus collosum (bridge between left and right brain), and was placed on medicine for seizures. His particular syndrome is called SOX2 Anopthalmia with his particular case being only of 40 people in the entire world!
And so the story continues…
Our family has been through alot and with your donations & sponsorships we will be able to help pay for the many medical procedures and testing, trips to other specialists outside the state, doctors, medical supplies, home supplies as well as home care that will cost a lot of money for our family.
But we didn’t want to just get donations… we wanted to be able to give something back to you!
We came up with a “Possibilities Wall” to reflect a positive drive towards the answers we all are looking for. Imagine it like a wishing well… you toss something of value into the well wishing for granting wishes and possibilities!
We wanted to thank you in as many ways as we could and offer a way for you or your business to advertise for a low cost – just like the ads you see on taxis, buses, and other mobile advertising billboards.
